He consults to website designers, not homebuilders; but his quotation above is perfectly at home on our website. To his wisdom, we'd add that as construction materials have changed over the years, so have the behaviours of real humans in their homes. Yet, the more things change in the world, the more it feels comfortable in the home to have authentic heritage elements in harmony with modern conveniences. Many people appreciate the traditional craftsmanship of a heritage log home; few want to live in an historic log cabin. Working closely with real humans to custom design, build and renovate their period homes, with the perfect balance of traditional craftsmanship and modern construction, is what we do at Clutterbuck Construction Corporation.

In England, there's a company called Shape Your Space Ltd., which approaches their specialty of transforming period houses into modern functional homes as we do here in Canada. Peter Morville, the information architect quoted above, would probably be as impressed with their excellent website design, as we are with their construction sensibilities.

We're Always Under Construction

We're rebuilding our website to keep you better informed about what's happening at Clutterbuck Construction. The custom windows of these enclosed porches were designed in four panel modules between posts. This enables the two center windows of each module to open fully against the fixed panels in summertime for maximum air circulation. It was the dead of Winter and the client needed roof trusses put in place on a log cabin, which was under construction on a cliff.

Despite the 40 degrees below zero temperatures, the biggest problem was that a crane could not get into this remote location until Spring. The problem was not unlike that faced by early pioneers, so we solved it in the same way the pioneers did&#151we hoisted the trusses into place manually.

Texas Dog Trot

Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum
1800 N. Congress Avenue
(512) 936-8746

Brimming with pride, this museum dedicated to the spirit of Texas opens its doors in April of 2001. The museum includes 3 stories of exhibits focusing on 3 categories: Texas Land, Texas History and Texas Identity and Opportunity. Each exhibit is designed to highlight a different chapter in the story of Texas. Also housed in the museum are two theatres: the Imax Theatre and the one of a kind multi-media-capable Texas Spirit Theatre.

Three floors of exhibits -- three themes as big as Texas history: Land, Identity and Opportunity. The exhibits at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum will surround you with the sights, sounds and (sometimes) smells of Texas history. Each floor of exhibits highlights important chapters in The Story of Texas through objects, media programs, and recreated environments.

Our contribution to the creation of this life-sized experiential exhibition was the construction of the Texas Dog Trot, a unique example of a pioneer log house of the period. For this project, we lived in Austin for a period of about 6 weeks.

Here's the authentic Texas Dog Trot we built inside the museum:
